Yorkshire based logistics company The Elite Group has built a
school in Sri Lanka to replace a school destroyed
in the December 2004 tsunami (tidal wave) disaster.

The company paid for a building, playground
equipment and annual salaries for a teacher and teaching
assistant for the new school which is located in the
Hambantota region 150 miles south of the capital Colombo.
The school caters for up to 50 pre-school aged children
and is of an open sided design with hall, stage, anterooms
and outside play area. The opening ceremony was attended
by a large crowd including the local member of parliament
Sajith Premadasa.
The Elite Group (Elite Forwarders Limited
and subsidiaries) employees over 600 staff in Leeds
and provides full freight and logistics services to
a range of large British retailers. The company has
won several awards for its programme employing and
supporting local long term employed people.

to help them rebuild and return to a normal life."
