The Elite Group was invited
to host an ‘ Opening Doors’ event on Tuesday
21st March as part of the Business in the Community's
"Opening Doors" initiative sponsored by
the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister as part of
the Neighbourhood Renewal programme.
The ‘Opening Doors’ programme
allows delegates from businesses across the region
to visit a Big Tick company and see how they have
implemented their good practices.
The Elite Group was awarded the Big
Tick Award in 2004/2005 in the BUPA Healthy Communities
Category. This recognises Elite’s work with
West Leeds Family Learning, recruiting staff who had
previously been unemployed for over 12 months.
Leeds City Council’s Lead Member
for Learning, Councillor Sue Bentley said:
"We are very proud of our partnership
with The Elite Group and with the community in West
Leeds. It is an excellent example of how the public
and private sector can work together to achieve better
opportunities for all. Across the city, time and again,
we see the benefits of creating training and employment
partnerships and Leeds City Council’s Jobs and
Skills Service is a great facilitator for this."
The delegates that attended the ‘Opening
Doors’ at Elite’s Wortley site said that
it was very inspiring, it provoked new ways of looking
at their own operations and was well organised. One
delegate said "Never mind calling it Opening
Doors, it's more like Opening Minds".
