Having
multi-lingual staff is an important factor for any
company dealing with overseas suppliers and customers.
The Elite Group employ staff fluent in: Czech, French,
German, Italian, and Turkish, amongst other languages.
However, sometimes language can be a barrier for other
reasons:
The Elite Group’s main distribution
centres are located in areas of Leeds which enjoy
a diverse local population, and as a company that
aims to bring local people into local jobs, this diverse
labour has meant that some employees do not speak
English as their first language.
In order to support these employees
and improve their prospects, The Elite Group offered
the opportunity to improve their English speaking
and writing skills. The courses are run during working
hours, without loss of earnings, twice a week for
three hours per session. The courses are run in conjunction
with a ‘Basic Skills’ (Maths and English)
course originally set-up with our partners, West Leeds
Family Learning Centre, over two years ago.
Many staff are now registered on the
English as a Second Language Course and the staff
are finding this a tremendous benefit.
The Elite Group are constantly seeking
additional ways to expand staff personal development
