The Mission of the Leeds Fashion Show is to create a satellite of the London and Glasgow fashion weeks. “Dress Me Beautiful” is a platform for up and coming designers to display their talents. The organisers want it to be known that it is not absolutely necessary for everyone in fashion to move to London to 'make it'.
In addition to showcasing the talents of new designers it also gives the opportunity for models, hairstylists, photographers, make up artists etc. to gain experience in this field.
The 2008 event showcased a total of 13 designers and 6 boutiques/stores from in and around Leeds where a 6 piece collection was submitted for each. The designers included the following:
Anita Forde, Anna Murphy, Rene Boutique, Burnley College, Antczak and Hatton, Trout & Pout, Rebecca Connell, Blonde & Wise, Each to their Own, Livia Mihua, Lauren May, Kelly Ewing and Orlando.
Success stories include Anna Murphy being declared designer of the year for her amazing knitwear collection. Anna is now studying for a masters degree.
Each to their Own's designer Alex Barrett has now opened his second store in Leeds.
Jytoti Matoo went on to model for Livia Mihua at the Bambu Club in Romania.
Viki Bailey started her modelling career at our event and went on to win Miss Leeds, was third in the Miss England competition and gained paid modelling work all over the UK.
